WSU Pride Week
March 31 to April 4, 2025
Wayne State University Pride Week is filled with events and programming to show support and showcase the WSU LGBTQ+ student and employee populations. These programs are not only educational but also create space to connect and network with queer and ally individuals across the campus community.
These events are planned by various student organizations: the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (OMSE), the Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies (GSW) program, the Dean of Students Office (DOSO), the Queer Faculty and Staff Organization (QWSU), the Center for Gender and Sexuality (CGS), and several student organizations on campus.
Events are continuously being added to the calendar. Please check back for updates.
Saturday, March 29
10 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.: Queer Prom
The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, in partnership with Wayne State University’s Center for Gender and Sexuality, kicks off Pride Week with QUEER PROM. This event also features a special performance by drag queen, Jadein Black.
Queer Prom takes place following the 8 p.m. performance of "The Prom" on the Stage at the Hilberry Gateway. Tickets to this performance can be found here.
Queer Prom is a free event. RSVP encouraged.

Monday, March 31
3 to 4 p.m.: Pride Week Information Tabling
Stop by the Student Center literature table near the food court to learn more about Pride Week events and all of the Center for Gender and Sexuality programming.

5 to 6 p.m.: Trans and GNC Support Group Meeting
This group is a place for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming students, as well as anyone who is questioning or exploring their gender, to safely and freely express themselves. This is an accepting and inclusive space for transgender and gender-questioning adults to find support and connections with others.

6 to 7:30 p.m.: CAMP Drag Trivia
Join CAMP and the beloved DJ ClubKid for a night of queer trivia and drag!

Tuesday, April 1
11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Recipe for how to recreate a safe space for queer and marginalized people
Join the Center for Gender and Sexuality and Circle Pines Center to learn, connect, and create safer, more authentic spaces through discussion, labor, joy, and relationship exploration.

12:30 to 2:30 p.m.: IN•clued: a sexual health workshop by MOASH
Please join us for a MOASH-led workshop on community- and evidence-based, inclusive sexual health meant to support young people having agency over their sexual health and wellbeing. Students will learn about safer sex materials, their rights concerning sexual health knowledge, and how to advocate for their needs in healthcare settings.

5 to 7 p.m.: Pride Week: Polyamory 101
Join the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement for an interesting conversation and learning opportunity about non-traditional relationship styles. We will be exploring the dynamics of open and polyamorous relationships specifically through a Queer lens. We will go through some terminology, systemic approaches, personal experiences, and more. We hope to see you there!

Wednesday, April 2
12 to 2 p.m.: Pride-Up Your Military Service
Join military-affiliated students, their guests, and Allies for a "Pride-Up Your Military Service" social with the Office of Military and Veterans Academic Excellence.
Enjoy snacks, a game of pool or chess and meet some new friends.

1 to 3 p.m.: Pride Week DIY Screen Printing + Clothing Mod Party!
Bring your own shirts (or any fabric) and get creative with our screen printing station! We’ll have rad Pride-themed designs AND supplies to print your own custom patches.
Whether you’re making a statement tee, a badass battle vest, or adding some shimmer to your look, come get crafty and express yourself. All skill levels are welcome—just bring your clothes & your creative vibes!

Join us for a Black Queer Meet-Up in OMSE! Let’s connect, build community, and celebrate Black queer visibility during Pride Week. This is a chance to vibe, share, and explore what future gatherings could look like—whether that’s a regular peer support group or one-off events.
Food will be provided, but prioritizing those who RSVP ahead to ensure we have enough for everyone!

Let's Talk: A Queer Space is an engaging, safe, affirming, real, and nurturing space for LGBTQ+ students at WSU to share their thoughts, feelings, and understanding of the political changes that affect their lives.
Sponsored by Project Support and the Center for Gender and Sexuality, Let's Talk: A Queer Space offers an opportunity for LGBTQ+ students to engage with others, share their stories, learn helpful skills, and make meaningful and lasting connections.
The groups are hosted by Gabriel DeLong, doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology, and Dr. Sarah Kiperman-Hibner, Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology and Director of Project Support.

Wednesday, April 9, 4 to 5:30 p.m.: Author Talk with Curtis Chin
Join us for a conversation and book signing with author of Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, Curtis Chin
In his memoir, Curtis shares his story growing up as an Asian American in Detroit and coming out to his working class immigrant family. Set against the backdrop of his family's popular Chinese restaurant, Chin shares his journey through 1980's Detroit as he navigated rising xenophobia, the AIDS epidemic, and the Reagan Revolution to find his voice as a writer and activist.
Light refreshments will be served.
Free copies of Chin’s book will be available to the first 25 attendees!

Friday, April 11, 5 to 8 p.m.: Take Back The Night Detroit
Take Back the Night Detroit is a celebration of survivorship held annually to raise awareness about sexual violence issues and acknowledges April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This event gives survivors and supporters the opportunity to come together in a safe environment and share their experiences, including trials and triumphs. The event is free and open to the community.

Monday, April 28, 5:30 to 8 p.m.: Rainbow Celebration, Awards Ceremony, and Homecoming
Rainbow Celebration, Awards Ceremony, and Homecoming is a time for Wayne State University to honor our graduating LGBTQ+ and ally students, as well as students with academic interests in feminism, gender, and sexuality. The ceremony recognizes undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students who have completed their studies over the last year. This ceremony also celebrates those who have earned scholarships and those whose advocacy supports and uplifts LGBTQ+ life on campus.

This will be an IN-PERSON event. The ceremony will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a reception from 7 to 8 p.m.
Rainbow Celebration is not an alternative graduation, but rather a celebration of success and is open to people from all backgrounds and identities.
